THE RED ENVELOPE TRADITION

The red envelope tradition is a custom that has long been practiced throughout Chinese history.

In Black Sect Feng Shui, the red envelope tradition is honored. It is traditional that when you received sacred knowledge, you should give the person who transmits such knowledge directly to you one or more new red envelopes that include some money inside. In doing so, (1) you show sincere intention and respect for the sacred knowledge that is shared with you, (2) it protects the consultant's chi for sharing the sacred knowledge, and (3) it increases the strength and effectiveness of the cures provided to you.
 

The color red symbolizes good luck and power. The rectangular shape of the red envelope resembles an ancient shield and symbolizes protection. Therefore; the use of the red envelope is for good luck, power and protection from negative forces.

The number of red envelopes is determined by the importance of the cure or information that is shared with you. A consultant may ask for 1, 3, 9, 18, 27, 54, 99 or 108 new red envelopes that include a token amount of money inside.

Red envelopes can be purchased in Chinatown. It is not required that you present the traditional Chinese red envelopes. You may substitute them with regular red envelopes or you may make your own red envelopes.
